Smart Ice Maker
How might we give users the tools to customize their smart ice maker experience?
The Problem
I worked with a large home appliance brand to conduct a design thinking workshop to help them ideate features for a smart ice maker with their new a mobile app. As they were creating their new ice maker, they wanted to make sure they added features to their new app that were useful and usable to their users.
To get this information about their customers, I facilitated 10 interviews with 10 of their previous customers and asked asked them questions like:
how and when they use their current ice maker
what they like and don't like about it
their current use of the brand's app
hopes and concerns with a smart ice maker
The Process
I took this information into a design workshop with stakeholders and engineers, and we worked together to create a list of prioritized features for the proposed app. I then translated these requirements into wireframes, and met again with stakeholders to discuss the flow and experience.
The prioritized features were:
Turn the ice maker on and off
Schedule ice making
Choose size and weight of ice
Clean ice maker and order filters
Discover drink recipes with the ice
